What do u think about Kalimantan Selatan or South Borneo when u hear it ?

South Borneo identic with orang utan, dayak race, the mountain, Floating Market and other. Main icon I think Floating Market or island around it.

I live in Kotabaru, which is one of the island around it. The capital is Banjarmasin.

I live in Kotabaru which is also nearby Sarangtiung Beach, this is one of the famous place in Kotabaru beside Samber Gelap Island.

The beach is still natural, the white sand, the water, the trees. Owh I love them so much, especially the fresh air that u cant find in other place.

Although I wasn't born in there, but I got my elementary school to senior high school in there. So That's really bond me !

If u ask me or you are new comer in this city especially in Kotabaru or other place in South Borneo, I will explain it to you.

Kotabaru is a small island, it has xxx village.

There are several elementary school, several junior high school (SMP) which is the most famous is SMPN 1 Kotabaru, several senior high school (SMA) which is the most famous is SMAN 1 Kotabaru or SMAN 2 Kotabaru. And there are two universities here, STIKIP Kotabaru and Politeknik Kotabaru. You can choose one of them according which is the one you think the best of all from the course, education cost, or the nearest from your home.

How I go to or visit Kotabaru Island ?

If you are foreigner, you have to buy 3 airplane tickets, first Jakarta transit to Banjarmasin and final destination is Kotabaru. You can check in the ticketing or website that sell airplane ticket. I usually use Traveloka App in my handphone. If you are from Jalarta, you just need to buy ticket to Kotabaru (usually transit in Banjarmasin), the price is about Rp. 1000.000.

But if you want to visit Banjarmasin, you have to buy ticket to Banjarmasin only. The price is about Rp. 500.000. You can enjoy Terapung Market, Riam Kanan Mountain, Kembang Island or just walking around the city. And continue the trip with airplane or bus to Kotabaru. Airplane ticket is about Rp. 400.000 or Rp. 500.000, while bus is about Rp. 200.000. It's up to you.

How about the place you have to visit here for holiday ?

1. Siring Laut

Siring laut is culinery area, it is in the center of city. You can find alot of food and drink here, for dinner or just hangout with your friends and family. Because it's in the city so you can use Ojek or angkot for transportation Public. There is not Gojek or grab here, so you can not check the cost. And of course you have to ask first for the cost, so they will not making fool of you or try to cheat you that you have to pay alot.

2. Sarangtiung Beach

This is the most famous place in Kotabaru. It is near from the city, if you want to go there you can use motorcycle or car. It just 15 km from the city or about 30 minutes trip. You will see the clean beach, fresh air, white sands, sunrise or sunset, and also culinery like Soto Banjar, Seafood, coconut drink and other. The price is worth it.

3. Tumpang Dua Waterfall

Although I live in Kotabaru, I never visit Tumpang Dua Waterfall. Since there is accident that kill several person who visit there, I never want to come that place.

I just heard that the water very clean, the waterfall is not too nice like I imagine. But it's not too bad for local citizen who want to spend their holiday there.

4. Samber Gelap Island

This is also famous and hippie place you have to visit. The island is small, so you can walking around here. The water is so clean, you can get fresh air here and alsp diving to see fishes and coral reefs. I never go to this place, because I need toacross the island, and of course I think it's too hard and I am just very satisfied with Sarangtiung Beach which is resembly with it. And I am not diver, so I thing I am not excited to go there.

What the best food in Kotabaru that you can get ?

Because it's island, of course you have to try the seafood, beside Soto Banjar, Sate, Pecel, fishball, Bakso, Mie Ayam and other. You have to try the fish like Nila, Mas, and sea fishes, also crab, shrimp, sea shells, squid or other. I recommend you to try the crab, shrimp, squid and of course sea shells If you have alot of budget you can go to seafood restaurant that sell it. The cost start Rp. 25.000 and over.

If you have low budget but you wanna buy alot of seafood, you can go to downtown like Sarangtiung Village, Gedambaan Village and Sungai Baru Village. You can find many fisherman there, in the morning usually they come back to home to bring tangkapannya at home or dermaga. If you come in lucky season, you can find them sell crab, udang, kerang and cumi also fishes with very low price than you can get in city. They are also kind person, so you can sharing or ask questions anything to them. Just enjoy the air of the village.

If you get confused about how do you have to dress here, you can use tshirt andlong jeans, or modest clothes. Because mayoritas muslim, and also it's small city so that they are not like Jakarta which is you can use short dress or hot pant here.
